Photographing the Proposal

Now this is an engagement session ๐Ÿ™‚

About a month ago, Chris asked me if I might be willing to snap a few candid shots of his upcoming proposal to his girlfriend Kelly. I jumped at the chance.

Chris and Kelly are good friends of me and Colleen (my wife), and watching Chris prepare himself for engagement (and eventually marriage) has been a great experience. These two are a sweet couple – they fit well, and as many of our friends can attest – it’s awesome to see them heading towards wedlock.

The engagement shoot was really fun. Aside from it being a great experience for these two – I had a blast. I was able to go into full-on photojournalist mode – stalking these two from about 200 feet away (hiding behind an old tree). Not only was I shooting with my telephoto from afar, I hid a second camera in a bush about 30 feet away, and fired it wirelessly with my pocket-wizards. Gotta love fun technology huh? My favorite part about these candid shots (and they really are candid – Kelly had NO idea I was shooting!) is the genuine emotions you can see on these two love-bird’s faces.

Chris proposed to Kelly near the coast in LakeSide Ohio, and it was a perfect day for this sort of thing. Prior to the proposal, himself, Eric and I spent a bit of time planning the spot, and getting everything good to go. Eric made a spectacular find – in the way of a beat up old scooter. Of course, I talked Chris into a quick little photo shoot with the scooter – and got some fun shots. And, in classic Chris Rogers style, he took a nice little fall from the scooter his first time around – good times. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After the shooting the proposal, Chris, Kelly and I navigated to Marble-head for an impromptu engagement session. In our brief time together, we capture some fun shots together. You can see the entire photo-set hosted on FaceBook, right here. Otherwise, enjoy some of my favs below!

Of course – I’d love to be able to make proposal photography something I get to do more often – it’s a great time, and a real blessing and surprise to the bride-to be. Chris & Kelly – I’m so excited for you two. Now you get the most fun of all – wedding planning! If you need any help… I do know a few good photographers… ๐Ÿ™‚
