Kristin and Phillip – for real – I ♥ them. In a non-creepy wedding photographer way of course. How could you not though? These two literally united continents of people as they celebrated their love.

Lakeside Ohio Wedding

I had so much fun being their wedding photographer. It was a rather warm (ok… pretty darn sweaty!) day, but it was so worth it. The images we made happen are some of my favorite to date, and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of it all.

With their wedding be at Lakeside Hotel in Lakeside, Ohio, we had amazing access to Lake Erie for our creative photography session.

Wedding days are often found in the details, and as a wedding photographer I believe highly in documenting those details. Kristin’s yellow shoes? Freaking amazing. Their color popped throughout the day and reflect the lighthearted love of the person wearing them.

Phillip is Austrailian, and has the COOLEST austrailian accent (accent being relative to where you live of course!). I honestly wish I had mustured up the courage to whip out my austrialian accent throughout the day. But it honestly sucks really bad and I’m sure would have been embarrassing for anyone within earshot.

Ooohh! Check out his ‘stache in the image above! He actually pulled it off quite nicely, but he and Kristin had decided it was best to shave it off that morning before the wedding.

Phillip is a VERY talented graphic designer. I love working with fellow creatives, and was super impressed by his creative wedding invitations he had designed himself. Check them out? They perfectly carry the theme and brand of the wedding so well. Speaking of wedding branding – his work reminds me a bit of another set of wedding invites and stationary I love – find them here.

I love me some yellow. I think that yellow or green are my personal favorite colors, and I love the various yellow shoes that their wedding party wore. For future brides reading this – check out Kristin’s hand wrapped and custom gifts for her bridesmaids. Pretty sweet!

Being a wedding photographer is mostly about storytelling through a lens. I often share this sentiment, but I believe so much in the value of candid wedding photography, as being a photojournalistic wedding photographer means that I’m able to preserve the little moments and pieces that make up a wedding day.

I love color, but I love the simplicity and elegance of a black and white image. The cool crispness of them, and the reduced informaiton for your brain to process can help simplify the message of an image.

Kristin and Phillip are all about family. Featured above are a few of their nieces, who played a big role in the wedding. Given that these “cousins-in-law” (is that a real term?) will likely rarely see eachother due to the oceans separating them, it was important to get imagery of them playing together on this rare occassion.

The kids are SUPER cute too – and were really fun to photograph. Having a daughter myself who’s about their age, it was fun to photograph and play with them.

Wedding Ceremony at Mon Ami Winery

As I said, it was a hot summer day, but everyone was full of smiles and joy prior to their wedding at Lakeside.

The aforementioned nieces made their debut as flower girls – all dressed in yellow they ambled down the path.

I loved seeing Kristin round the corner – Phillip’s face lit up. The images above say it all.

The outdoor wedding ceremony at the gazebo at Lakeside was something out of a dream. Officiated by none other than Anna-Jeannine Herman of Something New Entertainment (who was also their wedding DJ – how awesome is that????) the ceremony was sweet & just perfect.

A simple well captured wedding photograph can say so much.

I LOVE seperation in my wedding photography. So often I see wedding photographers who just make their couples walk around and make-out (sorry for being crass, but seriously folks!). Sometimes it’s nice in an image to draw some attention to the relational unity by showing visual separation.

And yes, being close is important to in your wedding photography! For real, I love very natural images. To be honest, I think it takes an experienced wedding photographer to help people feel enough at ease so that the wedding photography feels natural and real versus staged and awkward.

I Love their flirty-ness here!

Before heading out to their wedding reception at Mon Ami Winery, we first took some time to head out to the lighthouse for some imagery. The Lighthouse was a theme in their wedding stationary so I felt it important to get some imagery in their wedding set that would fit in line.

Phillip is awesome. Love that he pulled this off.

I am a huge believer in custom locations for my wedding photography. We literally scout locations for our couples, finding unique places for us to photograph them in. Above is one such find – a pretty sweet farm property I happened upon that I knew would be perfect to hit.

Ok for real? Kristin’s friends were the bomb. I laughed so hard with the girls as we made the imagery happen – thanks for being so much fun ladies!

Theme and branding – I love them in a reception. Once we hit their wedding reception at Mon Ami Winery, I took some time to document the little details that made their night special.

And of course, the little moments at a wedding reception are so important. It had rained on an and off during the wedding reception at Mon Ami Winery, and so a puddle or two had formed here and there on the concrete, and the flower girls were absolutely LOVING the opportunity for some good old-fashioned puddle stomping 🙂

Oh yeah – and check out the gentelman above – I caught him taking a selfy with his fake mustache. One of the best things your wedding photographer can give you is blackmail material.

I love speeches at wedding receptions. They are my favorite time to just capture people reacting. I think of it as a game sometimes, I just wait for people to light up and I see how many smiles and laughter I can capture all around the room.

I shared that Anna-Jeannine of Something New Entertainment was their wedding officiant and DJ – and she’s just as awesome of a DJ as she is an officiant. She was even teaching guests how to do a few group dances at the reception – it was awesome.

Phillip and Kristin. I miss you already. Please please please please (times a million) come in when you are in the states next. I would LOVE to see you two again and catch up. You are my Australian friends forever (I can now say I know somebody over there and feel cool!), and I will forever be thankful you asked me to be a part of your incredibly awesome and fun wedding day.
