How Long Have You Been a Photographer?

Professionally for about 8 years and 2013 will be my 4th year as a full time photographer.

How Many Weddings Have You Photographed?

I feel like, “a hundred-million” might be a bit of an exaggeration… so let’s just say, I’ve photographed enough to be prepared for almost any scenario but not so many that I’ve forgotten why they are important.

Are You a Full Time Professional Photographer?

Yep. It is my life and passion.

What Photographic Related Degrees Do You Hold?

I started out at Owen’s Community College in a photography transfer and then completed my studies with a bachelors in visual communications technology from Bowling Green State University. That was enough to teach me how to learn… since then, I’ve taught myself MUCH more.

What Photographic Awards Have You Earned / Been Awarded?

I’m not really in it for the awards, the biggest award I can get is a great review from a bride and groom… buuuut, I have gotten a few Wedding Wire Top Pick awards and have been published in quite a few magazines and national blogs.

The Person Behind the Lens

Your wedding photographer is so much more than just a portfolio or a set of “FAQs”, he or she is a real person with a real life. We believe that at the heart of good wedding photography is a healthy relationship between a couple and their photographer. With that in mind, take some time and get to know Benjamin a bit better with the questions below.

What is your Favorite Part of your Job?

I really like being a part of your wedding day. It fills me with joy to know that I can create images that will be enjoyed and cherished for years to come. I LOVE taking pictures…. but I love taking pictures for you even more.

What’s Your Favorite Retro Board Game?

Sorry! For its awesomely understated sarcasm. Either that or Monopoly… while frustrating, Monopoly will always show you something new about the group you’re playing with.

What Are You Like on a Wedding Day?

I am a delightful blend of stealthy ninja, rock-star, helpful, observer, messenger… in short, I’m the best wedding photographer you’ve ever seen ;)

What Makes Your Images Artwork and Not Just Snapshots?

Emotion. The photos you’ll get back won’t just show you what they day looked like, they will let you relive how it felt.

Are You Married, Do You Have Kids?

No kids, but I am very happily married to the love of my life and best friend Jennifer. We got married in 2009 and have known each other since Jr. High. And, to anyone who wants to say “long distance relationships don’t work.” I’d like to point out that we did it for almost 3 years, and it made our love stronger.

Who Are Some of Your Favorite Musical Artists?

Typically I favor the mellow folky stuff like Iron and Wine, Johnny Cash, Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers, and Bob Dylan. But often when I need to REALLY get some work done I’ll put on some Black Keys, White Stripes or Matt + Kim.

What is your Favorite Piece of Photographic Equipment?

My current favorite is my 35mm f/1.4 It’ll be on my camera most of the day… it’s awesome, but you’ll have to buy me a cup of coffee or a beer to find out more than that.
