I love Lauren and Brett. A bunch. Creepy sounding, I know this. I suppose the professional blog writing part of me wants to be all like “oh these two are so cool and they had a fancy pants wedding” – and then I’d spew tons of search engine terms at you. But I don’t want to do that.
What I want to do is tell you who they are and why I loved photographing them. So let’s do that ok?
PS – the picture above – that was fun. My wife bought me an old vintage (yes, old AND vintage) brownie twin reflex camera last year. This is not photoshop – I literally photographed this image inception style through the lens of the brownie. MmmmMmmm. Brownies.
I love them bunches. (Lauren and Brett. Not the shoes above. Although I do Love Lauren’s shoes.) These two became my friends from day one. Like – buddy / buddy kinda friendship. I photographed their wedding and celebrated alongside them.
So – that’s Lauren (on the left. obviously ๐ ). She’s pretty. She’s pretty freaking awesome. Full of laughter – she cracks up easy and totally brings a smile to anyone easily.
Brett is on the right (which is crazy because we have the same name!). He’s rockin’ the “Shooter McGavin” pretty well. I think the guns came out about 5 separate times on the wedding day. Why? Because I kept challenging Brett to quickdraw competitions. I really didn’t think he’d be up for it (this is the kind of stuff I do with little kids…) but he went for it. I love this guy.
This is Lauren and the ladies in the morning. I freaking dig the black and white up top. I felt ultra sneaky-sneaky photographing it from around the door.
Here are the guys. They were a riot. Not in the violent “lets break down storefronts and burn things kinda way” but in the “heck you’re a lot of fun and you guys make me laugh” kinda way.
I am a big proponent of first looks, if it fits the couple’s schedule and needs. And in their case – it did. And seeing them see each other for the first time was magical.
And then this guy in a bike showed up.
Pockets. If you read my wedding blog writing, you know I’m a big fan of pockets in dresses. I know, I know. As a guy, I really shouldn’t have an opinion. But, other than the utilitarian end of it all (you keep cool stuff in pockets), it’s great for body posturing. Dangly hands look bad in images – and I love the ease and casualness of an image like the above.
Spin it Lauren! This is so fun – and so Lauren. Also – another bonus point for pockets – they help you balance whilst you spin in concentric circles.
GAAHHH. Wow. This is how you do an outdoor wedding in Cleveland people. It was a beauty of an afternoon for a wedding at the Glidden house!
The gentleman from Flowerville pulled off this amazing archway for my friends to get married underneath.
Candids are everything. People are really themselves when they don’t know I’m photographing them creepily from far away with a telephoto lens.
I mean that. About me being creepy ๐ LOL – but for real. I love my job – but sometimes I pretend I’m some sort of private eye or super-sleuth when I’m capturing candids of guests and the story. Seriously though, there is only a few professions I know of (wedding photographer and spy / private investigator) where it’s socially acceptable (or at least expected) to take pictures of people without them knowing.
I love that I caught the couple taking a selfie. #Selfieception.
The tent is amazing at Glidden House. I mean that. Sometimes tents can be hit or miss on weddings, but the Glidden House has their tent down to a science.
I loved the set up in the tent. Lauren’s color’s were outstanding. Even the cake won my heart.
Speeches are a favorite part of my day. This is when you find out how well prepared the best man / maid of honor are ๐ These two nailed it – I remember laughing out loud quite a bit at Brett’s brother’s speech.
Being a father now I have a certain love and respect for the parent dances. When I was younger I didn’t quite get this wedding tradition, but there is something special about letting your children go here that I don’t think we can match.
Troy entertainment rocked it out here – the dance floor was packed all night long.
AHH! I love wish lanterns at wedding receptions! Seriously – this was my fav.
They’re fun. And probably should be illegal. But they are so fun. And fun makes things that should be illegal legal.
Watch the story progression here. I love Lauren freaking out a bit over this one randomly. Then she gras it out of mid flight (watch the disappointment on the guys face on the right too). And then below – she actually stomps it out. LOL.
I love you guys. You are now dear friends of mine – I seriously want to hang out and be buddies outside of the wedding!!
