I cannot emphasize how important it is to feel comfortable with your photographer. When you know your photographer – by hanging out with them before your shoot, or booking an engagement before your wedding – it makes a significant difference in your images, and in your experience. Facebook creepin’ (admit it, you’ve done it) is not enough.
The strongest relationships in your life are probably the ones you’ve been the most intentional with, trust the most, and it’s probably where you feel most understood.
This is our goal. We want to connect with you so you know that we’re being intentional, you can trust us, and you feel understood.
My hope for this unique blog post – where the engagement and wedding images are presented consecutively – is to illustrate how connecting with your photographer can lend to the images, and an experience you’ll love.
So, let me introduce you to my new friends, Tina and Brian.
They are genuine, kind, competitive (see below) and obviously, hilarious.
The adorableness could not be stopped.
As we continued shooting, our comfort level grew with each other, allowing more room for emotion to bloom.
I love how sincere he is to her, and how trusting she is of him.
I enjoyed seeing them come to life, with each other, and the camera.
I knew they loved video games, so we had to incorporate that into the session.
What I didn’t know was how much punching and wrestling would be involved …
I was so looking forward to being a part of their wedding!
The morning of her wedding, I could not get over her beautifully beaded wedding dress.
Because I knew their style, I decided to photograph their details in a very classic way.
Photographing the guys getting ready was hilarious. Contrary to popular belief, pants are not required.
We all already know Tina is beautiful. Omgoodness … stop it.
Her look, when she saw him, was priceless.
Their ceremony was small, intimate, and so sincere. They very much valued being surrounded by their closest friends and family.
It took some convincing, but the guys finally decided to put pants on 😉
It is so important to build trust with your photographer. Tina and Brian knew me, so they decided to trust me when I encouraged them to shoot outside, even though it was freezing cold, and raining on and off.
Does that initially sound like fun? Probably not. Did they trust me? Yes. I knew I could create great images for them, even if it meant feeling cold. Their day wasn’t ruined, and they adored the images that came from our short outdoor creative session.
It was beyond worth it, and gives them a story to tell to others.
Our next location was indoors, and it fit them perfectly.
Plus, it was way warmer and carried a calming and elegant atmosphere.
Needless to say, being able to photograph them on their wedding day was a joy.
I intentionally recreated some of their engagement images on their wedding day. I felt it was something they would appreciate, and compliment both sets. When you know your couple, you have a great feel for what they will love.
I want my clients to feel like they’re hanging out with a great friend on their wedding day, and feel like they look their absolute best in every image – that the beauty/epicness/adorableness/best parts of themselves – are being shared with everyone through their images.
At Making the Moment, we truly do make efforts to form real, lasting, relationships with our clients. Brian, Tina, Brett and I even have a an epic night of Rock Band coming up. Guess who’s not singing (hint: it’s Brett).
We know you are more than your image, and we want to make sure that shows in your photography.
